Charitable Works

Well, how are you today, my lovelies?

I'm feeling surprisingly bright, given the amount of wine I consumed at a very special birthday lunch yesterday.  I'm putting together a few photos on that but I was just itching to show you my little pressie to self which I bought a few days ago and I can  hold back no longer.    So I give you ...

Tadaah!
My charity shop finds.

There is a rather nice charity shop for the BHF which I sometimes pass in Town when returning to my car.  And it sort of feels, well, uncharitable, if I don't pop in 😉.

It was love at first sight when I snapped my eyes on this beauty of a skirt.  Tell me, just what is there not to love?

I have quite fancied having a cheeky little summer dress or skirt with a bit of fullness.
This M&S skirt has a deep waistband top so the pleating starts about 6 inches down from the waist, which means there is no bulk in the place where bulk is best avoided.

And then, of course, there is all that lovely colourful botanical stuff going on.  Oooh, I just wanted to scoop it up and take it home with me.  So I did.  £3.50 worth of scooping up.

But what to wear it with?  Well it just so happened that this Fat Face cardi was hanging nearby.  In my mind they were two best mates who'd had so many good times together with their previous mistress.  But when discarded by said fickle mistress, they had been garment-categorised away from each other, as is the wont of those most efficient charity shop ladies.  I just had to get these besties reunited.

So the cardi went over my arm too.  And then I tracked down their best playmate, a pink necklace in the jewellery section.   And then The Terrific Three were finally reunited and came home with me!
What a lovely ending to a sad tale of discardedness and enforced estrangement.

Now ladies, can you imagine what pleasure this skirt is going to give me?
The creative hours I will spend teaming tops and cardis with my pretty new playmate?  For the skirt, of course, is the main event (but please don't tell cardi I said that!)

As well as the predominant hot pinks and reds there is also green leafage, splodges of blue and a soft buttery yellow lurking in the background.
Is your creative mind getting to work on this colour-matching project too?

So those are my exciting charity shop finds - have you found any little gems whilst out a-rummaging recently?

A la perchoine.

  1. Dear PP, Congratulations on your gorgeous new skirt and cardigan. Such a beautiful coral-rose shade and it is so pretty on you. It is also one of my fave colors to wear! The skirt does indeed offer many outfit options-it makes a gal feel like she has won the Lottery (at least for me) when she can find such a versatile and fun piece during a charity/consignment shop treasure hunt. I have the most success when I stick to my limited color palette instead of wandering too much in these stores-recently found Uniqlo raspberry linen blouse ($9.00),a floral white linen dress from Eddie Bauer ($4.00) as well as metallic flat sandals UNWORN ($9.00) from Nine West. This is my kind of shopping more and more ! Have a wonderful weekend and enjoy your new ensemble-perhaps in your lovely garden with a bubbly beverage as you toast your savvy shopping sense?

  2. That's some savvy sense, Jules, sticking to a palette. Oh how I wish you had a blog so I could follow your outfits!
Now your last bit sounds like a good idea ... oops, gotta go, just been handed a G&T, I'll keep that bubbly on ice till tomorrow!

  3. What a terrific find Mary! That skirt is my favorite cut - I love it when the pleats start farther down and really help slim the stomach area, it's so flattering. And I believe the cardi and the skirt were silently screaming 'yes!' when you reunited them. They indeed belong together! I can't wait to see how you style that skirt in the future, do you have a chambray shirt? I bet it would be fabulous with chambray and pearls!! I can hardly wait to see it again.
    Enjoy your day beautiful lady!!

    1. Thanks for all your sweetness, lovely lady. I have to admit the cut makes me feel just a little cheeky!
Now, teaming it with chambers and pearls sounds like huge amounts of fun. Totally hadn't thought to go in that direction. Leave that one with me ... and meantime, here's wishing you a super weekend, sista x.

    1. Aw thanks, Leslie, you are so right, it's a happy pattern. I'm glad you see happiness in pattern too. It makes me smile. And they've paired the fabric with just the right cute cut, a win win.

    1. So kind, Polly, thanks. Funny that you mention Vronni cos I was thinking of her when rummaging, I think I may have been channelling her and she led me to it! Hope she's relaxing nicely in Ireland. X.

  7. First of all, a BIG thank you for linking up to my slow fashion style party. It means a lot when blogging friends that I have followed for a long time, take the time. I believe in power of three and you took these three and put them together perfectly. I have a cardi about that same color and have always had a problem working with it. I just need to think harder, I see. Take care, Terri

    1. Yes, this skirt is going to keep me off the streets for a while! I expect our BHF is our top end of charity shops, it's so beautifully curated, garmentised and colour-sectioned, almost like going into a boutique. Hope you show us some of your gems!
